Privacy Policy
Governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada.
This policy explains what Swift Towing collects, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. It is written to meet Canada's federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), which applies to private-sector businesses in Ontario.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to dispatch a truck and complete a job:
- Contact details — your name, phone number, and email address, so a dispatcher can reach you and send your tow ticket.
- Location — the address you type, and, if you use Share My Location, the GPS coordinates your device sends. Location is used to find you and to record where a vehicle was picked up and delivered.
- Vehicle information — year, make, model, colour, licence plate, VIN, and odometer reading where recorded.
- Job records— times, driver, charges, payment status, notes, and photographs of the vehicle's condition taken before and after transport.
- Signatures— the signature you provide on the driver's device authorizing the tow and acknowledging the charges.
- Technical information — standard web server logs, and analytics data if analytics is enabled on this site.
Why we collect it
- To dispatch a truck to the correct location and complete your job.
- To produce your tow ticket, receipt, and invoice.
- To record the condition of a vehicle at the time we take custody of it. These photographs protect you as much as they protect us — if damage is disputed later, there is a timestamped record instead of an argument.
- To take and reconcile payment.
- To meet legal and regulatory obligations, including records related to private-property removals and vehicle storage.
- To respond to your enquiries.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Location data specifically
Share My Location is never automatic. Your browser will ask for permission, and nothing is transmitted unless you grant it. When you do, we receive your latitude, longitude, and an accuracy estimate at that moment. We do not track your location continuously, we do not track you after your job is complete, and we do not build a movement history.
To show you the nearest street address while you fill in the request form, your browser also sends those coordinates to OpenStreetMap's address lookup. It receives the coordinates only — never your name, phone number, or vehicle details.
You can decline and simply describe your location instead — the form works either way. You can revoke the permission at any time in your browser settings.
Who we share it with
Only where necessary to do the job:
- The driver assigned to your job.
- Payment processors, where you pay by card. Card details are handled by the processor and are never stored on our systems.
- Email and SMS providers, to deliver your receipt, tow ticket link, or invoice.
- Your insurer, motor club, or the repair facility you nominate — where you have asked us to, or where the job was arranged through them.
- Law enforcement or a regulator, where we are legally required to produce records.
- For private-property removals, the property representative who authorized the removal, and the registered owner of a removed vehicle.
How long we keep it
Tow tickets, invoices, and their supporting photographs are retained for as long as is necessary to meet tax, insurance, and legal-limitation requirements — typically seven years. Tow requests that never become jobs are retained for a shorter period and then removed. Where a dispute or claim is active, records are retained until it is resolved.
How it is protected
Access to job records is restricted to authorized staff, and each person's access is limited to what their role requires — drivers see the jobs assigned to them, not the whole business. Portal sessions are protected by signed, http-only cookies. Customer receipt links use long, unguessable tokens so a link cannot be found by trying sequential numbers. Data in transit is protected by TLS.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise. If a breach affects your personal information and creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required.
Your rights
Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) you may:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy.
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong.
- Withdraw consent to certain uses — though this may mean we can no longer provide a service.
- Complain to us, and then to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
To make a request, call +1 (613) 890-9008. We may need to verify your identity before releasing information — that requirement protects you.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses a single essential cookie to keep staff signed in to the portal. If analytics is enabled, it is configured with IP anonymization and is used only to understand which pages and actions people use. We do not run advertising trackers or sell audience data.
